Emin Pasha (Schnitzer, Eduard)
(1840-92)
   African explorer. Born in Silesia, he was baptized when young. He worked in the Sudan as a doctor, and became governor of the Equatorial Province in 1878. He was cut off by the Mahdi rebellion of 1881 until an expedition reached him. He subsequently served in the German colonial service in Africa, but was murdered in 1892 by slave traders.
